Welcome to the Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – energy display

Our electricity purchase is 100% renewable (green energy) helping the NHS reach the net zero carbon commitment

The National Ambition

The UK was the first major economy in the world to pass a law to tackle climate change. This means that the UK will aim to balance any emissions generated through emission cutting or removal efforts – so called ‘Net Zero’. The achievement of this ambition depends on how quickly the country as a whole succeeds.

This ambition is supported by the Department of Health and Social Care, and in response, NHS England and NHS Sustainable Development Unit had launched ‘For Greener NHS Campaign’ in January 2020.

Supporting the National Ambition

The causes of climate change and air pollution are linked to illness such as heart disease, stroke and lung cancer. Other linked issues are extreme weather conditions such as flooding and spread of infectious diseases. All these will have impact on NHS services.

It is our duty to contribute towards the level of ambition set for reducing the carbon footprint of the NHS, public health and social care system by achieving Net Zero by 2050 both in our current activities and redevelopment plans.

Our Actions

THH has made a corporate and strategic commitment to sustainability. As part of this we will purchase and use Ofgem certified Renewable Electricity and display our consumption live to engage users to help us reduce energy consumption. Our actions also include in waste reduction, recycling, green travel, water conservation, clean air commitment and education & culture change.

The simple action that we are promoting is “switch-off when not in use” [monitors, computers, lights, heating and cooling].
